The FVI is a stakeholders group in Whitecourt, Alberta. It began in 2004 with the mandate that it is necessary to reduce the incidence of family violence through awareness, support, referral and intervention. There are many agencies involved in the FVI including Wellspring Family Resource and Crisis Centre, Alberta Health Services-Health Promotion, North Central Alberta Child and Family Services, McMan Youth Family and Community Services Association, Indigo Counselling, Spark Family Resource Network, Town of Whitecourt, RCMP, WESTARVSS Victim Services. Partners meet monthly to collaborate on events and discuss current trends/community issues.
We also collaborate with the Northern Gateway School Division and the Living Waters Separate Catholic School Division to provide information on programming and resources related to the Family Violence Initiative.
The FVL works in partnership with the RCMP and Crown Prosecutors to provide support to domestic violence calls/files that are channelled through the RCMP. Their role is to provide a coordinated community response to Family Violence in Whitecourt. The FVL assists victims through the court system, while providing appropriate referrals to resources and supports.
